JUST AS A PRECURSOR.....I DO NOT CONDONE THIS DIETARY BEHAVIOR :)
Pork roll is a type of sausage-like meat product commonly available in and around New Jersey and Philly. In North Jersey it is usually called Taylor Ham. The product, as it is made today, was developed in 1856 by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, though several firms produce their own versions.
Some people compare it to Canadian bacon, some say it's a richer cousin of Spam. Others say there is just no comparison. One thing is sure. Taylor ham is a staple of life in New Jersey.
Go in any Jersey diner for breakfast and you will have your choice of eggs, any style, with bacon, sausage or Taylor ham. If you don't want eggs, you can have a Taylor ham sandwich on a hard roll, on toast, with pancakes, or any other way you can think of, with or without cheese.
taylor ham egg and cheese...........which i assume (my nj brain tells me) is pork roll
growing up we NEVER had this at our house.....diners YES, but Boschen house NO
my parents we fans of Canadian Bacon
looking at THAT makes my stomach instantly hurt.

Route 23 in Butler NJ
STAPLE for us hoodlums growing up
the sandwich is called
a HEART ATTACK
bacon, taylor ham, egg and lots of cheese
NOW i understand the breakfast meat thang
BUT my options would be
turkey, chicken or (dont laugh) tofurkey
All breakfast meats are high in sodium and fat
Animal fat being the most dangerous
That is why i stick to my new favorite
VEGGIE SAUSAGE WHICH TASTES INCREDIBLE AND ADD SOME SLICED AVOCADO TO MY EGGS
YOU GET THE TASTE WITHOUT THE BLOAT AND FAT
ORDER WITH YOUR HEAD NOT YOUR TUMMY!
THE TIMELESS QUESTION WILL NEVER BE ANSWERED, I FEAR. THERE WILL FOREVER BE CONFUSION IN NEW JERSEY WHEN ORDERING TAYLOR HAM. IS IT A PORK ROLL OR IS IT CANADIAN BACON?
THE ALPHA SPORT SOLUTION: DRUM ROLL PLEASE
DONT ORDER IT
NEW JERSEY I LOVE YOU LONG TIME, BUT LETS TRY TO KEEP OUT ARTERIES CLEAN
